If the name Cali Thornhill Dewitt sounds familiar, you might realize that he was the artist and designer behind Kanye West’s Life of Pablo merch. This time around, Converse teams up with the artist as well as Slam Jam Socialism to deliver a three-way collaboration titled “Urban Utility,” a collection of staples inspired by cross-seasonality and functionality. Dewitt’s graphics are featured prominently on the short-sleeve jersey tees, whilst the Chuck ’70s Hiker Hi is reconstructed with GORE-TEX and repurposed military fabrics.
Dewitt’s vision allowed for the expression of freedom, the importance of creativity and the limitless manner in which one can portray themselves. A thoughtful provocation “Your Silence Gets You Nothing” is emblazoned across the t-shirts, depicting the freedom of expression as desired by Dewitt. Urban Utility catapults Converse into a new region of premium apparel and footwear, traversing into the contemporary street fashion scene. Releasing on Dec 5, 9AM EST.
