Being a huge sneaker fan has given me ample opportunity to view some of the latest styles in sock wear. The sneaker community has switched the game up going from wearing boring all black or all white ankle cut and crew socks. To the now amazing and creatively artistic, high fashion crew length socks of today. This isn’t your typical dad’s argyle printed crew length socks (although, I will feature a few), I am talking about the ingenious style of Stance, HUF, Diamond Supply Co., Crooks&Castles and so on. It’s not fair to have a one-sided blog, so I will also dive into some of the subtle styles such as Express, Gap, Gold-Toe, etc.
Each week, I will present a new pair of socks and run through the details of the sock. I will give price, links for purchase, material, product review and hardcore facts about the company. There is so much to cover and I am behind the 8-ball. My goal is to get my hands on various socks ranging in prices from $2.00 - $1100.00…. yes, guys that is ELEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for a pair of sock. Am I out of my mind? No, but if I can get my hands on them, I will be sure to give you an extensive review of the world’s most expensive socks. (Yikes, there was only 10 made!)
Welcome to the first installment of Socks Plus Shoes! I will not try to bore you with the normal whoop-blah of “where were socks first born.” However, here is a brief overview of why socks were created:
Socks date back to the stone ages, when our ancestors tied animal skin around their ankle. In the Middle Ages, Hoses (like panty hose) were fitted to cover the lower legs and around the 12th century feet (footies) were added to the hose. In the late 17th century, cotton came into use and the weaving techniques expanded and the world hasn’t looked back since. Socks - the 10th Wonder of the World.
