Based of California, the AG sock company began to grow legs when Rob announced on an episode of E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians that he was going to start a sock company. In late 2012, this idea flourished into a full scale and full time operation. (I promise I will not make this about the Kardashians) He is passionate about his line of socks and would give up the reality show to just concentrate on just his company. Not needing much more exposure (because of his surname), Rob would get it anyway when he inked a deal with Neiman Marcus to carry his line.
Initially, Arthur George socks weren’t grabbing my attention. I am not sure if it was from the price range (@$30) or if it was from the originality in the design of the socks. So I decided to hit the websites to find something that would appeal to me. Checking in to www.agsocks.com (Official Website), I noticed a variety of products to choose from, ranging from men and women street wear socks to leggings for women (Not to shabby). In the street wear department, I had to really dissect the definition of street wear. Majority of the socks feature a design UNDER the foot area… yes, under the foot. Unless you have your shoes off, you will never see the design. Plus, the design work underneath contains phrases such as “Sexy Sexy” or “Hot Momma” or “I Heart You” and “YOLO” to name a few. Without the wording (that you can’t see) those particular socks would look like regular tube socks in various colors. I just found it strange to put the highlight of the sock in that particular place.
I noticed a couple of other designs that spoke a little to me. The DIP, which is a gradient style of sock, the MVP which consist of a bold block A&G and the AG Big League sock. All of which are simple by design and has great visual appeal. The Couture line is a line in which Arthur George is going to use to compete with the high end dress sock companies. His couture line is made up of exceptional combed cotton and made with the always dynamic 200 needle machine. The designs in this line are somewhat lacking creativity and I am curious to get my hands on a pair to see if the product justifies the pricing. There are other companies using the 200 needle machine to produce high-end socks but the pricing is almost half of what you will pay here. However, if you are looking for a nice, simple high-end dress sock, this is the spot.
The sock I am featuring here is the Flying V of the Street Wear collection in the Charcoal Heather color way. I didn’t take the socks out of the packaging for a couple of days because I was extremely surprise on the price of them ($3.99). Right now, on the AG website this particular pair is still going for $15!! Another check mark for me is the quality of material. I have to admit if all of the street wear socks are made to this spec, then Robert Kardashian has one heck of a product to sell. The combed cotton is soft to the touch, the cushion area (foot, shin and heel) are right on point. The snugness is equally if not greater than the cushioned areas. This particular sock passed my wear-ability test and the visual test is good but not great. This particular pair of socks is more of a standard pair socks as far as design goes. Nothing on them truly stands out but their comfort is something along the lines of Amazing! Pick up a pair today at Neiman Marcus, Amazon.com or Arthur George’s website (www.agsocks.com)
