So maybe the title isn't exactly giving away a lot about what I want to say about H&M socks. Let me start by saying…. I am not a huge fan of H&M at all. No matter what they produce, I feel the quality level is sub-par and re-buying is in your immediate future.
Just a smidget of information about H&M; it is a Swedish clothing company, known for its inexpensive clothing for all ages and genders. They are all over the place (55 different countries) and mostly women flock to them because of their fashion forward style.
H&M sells Socks?
Is that a bad question to ask? The first time I ever heard about H&M was when I saw Usher on a commercial of some sorts for them. I had no clue what they sold or what I would see when I would go there. So when I saw Usher the R&B/Pop Singer, being all smooth and whatnot on the commercial ...or was it that he went on a shopping spree there (I can't remember). I figured they would sell an expensive, yet high quality product. Could I be any more wrong (Friends TV Show moment)?
By now, we all know I am an avid sock-connoisseur, meaning I will go anywhere to find a unique but decent pair of socks. The saying of “I’ll try anything once” (socks only) truly fits me. I will try a pair of socks once, before I truly pass judgment on them. Well… H&M is an exception only because I know their clothes aren’t of the quality of a GUESS or American Eagle. When I grabbed a pair of their “dress” socks; however, I am not sure they can be considered dress socks, from the rack, my first thought was “Dang it… why couldn’t you prove me wrong, grrrrrrrrr?” The socks come in a two pack and both pairs are so thin and are without any modern technology, that it is merely a sleeve for your foot.
I honestly did not believe this was the way of H&M, making cheap socks and selling them for really low prices (awesome business strategy, actually). So I took to the net and decided to look up some reviews on H&M socks. That didn’t quite work out how I planned. Many reviews were negative, some people even stated “The Socks are good for two washes and that’s it”, “Colors fade really fast but I like their patterns.” Again, like the old saying “You get what you pay for” is totally acceptable here. At $5.95 for a two pack, you can’t go wrong with that price, if you want a truly cheap pair of socks.
Now, this seems a bit harsh and cruel so let me try to bring a positivity to the H&M sock collection. I slid a pair of their Sports Socks into my bag (after paying for them, of course) and let me say “H&M should only sell this style of sock.” It is a mostly nylon made sock but some great features built in to it. Fast Drying (kind of like Nike’s Dri-FIT), ribbed section around the foot for an extreme comfortable fit and the feel is similar to the anti-blister style of running sock. It is a great sock and I am very surprised at the price ($9.95 for a 2-pack). While the major apparel companies are pushing similar socks for $15 for a single pair. Way to go H&M for this great affordable and comfortable creation. Now, I have yet to put them through a wash test, so that could be the downer about the socks. However, until then I am loving them and I honestly would recommend them. Just my opinion but I think this is the material and sock construction approach H&M should take on their other sock line. I am sure they would sell even at the higher price, which is only $4 dollars more than the "dress" sock. They have great color: Neon Green, Dark Orange, Black, White and Blue. Grab you a pack sport socks at www.HM.com or at H&M retail stores.
