The company that was featured during the 2015 NBA All-Star game has become a house hold name in the sneaker community. Stance Socks has been pushing the envelope of artistic expression, rolled into a sock. Staying true to their moto “The Uncommon Thread”, Stance is one of the industry leaders in creating unique threads. Their inspirational styling has kick started a sock revolution. Although, Stance is not the first sock company to create a wacky color style or the first sock company plaster a flower print on a sock. However, they are one of first to expose the under developed product category and in 2010, a talented group of guys ventured out to conquer the action-sports sock category.
Stance socks has been seen on the feet of athletes and celebrities such as Chandler Parsons of the Dallas Mavericks, Pro skater Nyjah Huston and of course Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat, who happens to have a line of socks. I found it quite remarkable how fast and how recognizable the Stance brand has become. From magazine articles to walking the red carpets, there will be someone wearing Stance.
I was hoping to review a pair of Stance much much later in the process of making this blog. Due to their notoriety and coming off a successful campaign during the NBA All-Star game, I felt it was only right to do my own assessment. I picked up several pair of Stance socks recently including a pair of the black and white Buckland casual wear sock. This pair features a digital bandana/winter sweater design in a black and white color way that plays into a jagged design around the calf and toes and of course, the embroidered logo to match the print.
This ¾ crew sock surpassed my expectations just after wearing them for a few hours. It has a great heel pocket and reinforced toe area that feels awesome on the foot. I almost forgot to mention the elastic arch support that provides a nice snug fit in the perfect spot. The Stance Buckland is composed of very fine combed cotton, spandex, elastic and nylon. It is a multipurpose sock, meaning it can be worn to compliment a pair of sneakers (as you can see in my image) or it can be dressed up with a nice black loafer.
A good pair of socks isn’t hard to find but a sock that can be considered cushioned, protective, comfortable, stylish and reasonably priced is tough to find. Before picking up a pair of Stance, I assumed they fell into a category with all the other novelty socks. I figured of the sock is all about the design and it will miss some of the key elements to compete with the best socks out there. I was wrong, the Buckland is all of those items listed above but there is one issue I have with the Buckland. It is hard to find, many online retailers are sold out with the listed price of $8-$14. I picked up a pair at an actual Footlocker store, however you may be able pick up a pair at activerideshop.com or Eastbay.com.
I cannot purely judge Stance on one sock alone, but I have to admit they are off to a great start in my book. This is not my first pair of their casual socks, so I am somewhat familiar with their product. Nevertheless, when I slide on a new pair I get a warm and fuzzy feeling in my toes. I am eager to get my hands on their new spring line up and the creative designs (I hear they are fantastic). Check out the line-up at The Sock Drawer’s blog at http://sockdrawer.com/blogs/the-sock-drawer-blog/17220173-stance-socks-for-spring-2015, they have us covered.
